ALIENWARE AREA-51M Gaming Laptop Review

The Alienware Area-51m Gaming laptop is one of the most powerful machines on the market because of its desktop-class hardware. That would be sufficient on its own, but the stunning body and comfortable keyboard elevate this to one of the best desktop replacement laptops ever built.

What the ALIENWARE AREA-51M Gaming Laptop Has Offered

With a desktop Intel Core i9 processor and one of NVidia’s high-performance RTX GPUs, it smashed through every test we threw at it with elegance and gusto. Additionally, it will put a significant dent in your wallet. However, it would help if you kept in mind that this is the first future-proof gaming laptop. This appears to be a minor price to pay for a substantially enhanced system and what Alienware refers to as the company’s first true desktop replacement.

Alienware’s completely rebuilt Area-51m gaming machine is colossal, dramatic gaming equipment. With a 17-inch screen and a 1.2-inch thickness, Dell’s new flagship gaming laptop weighs in at nearly 9 pounds. It is equipped with two of the most powerful components available in a consumer PC: an overclockable Intel Core i9-9900K CPU and an NVidia GeForce RTX 2080 graphics processor. Additionally, the engineers at Alienware created an exterior that is distinctive, futuristic, and yet modest.

ALIENWARE AREA-51M Gaming Laptop: Specs and Design

Alienware-Area-51m-Gaming-Laptop

The Alienware Area-51m is just a stunning gaming laptop that makes the best use of its size, giving the impression that you haven’t sacrificed any tablespace. The magnesium alloy body has a fantastic, almost ceramic feel and is impervious to smearing and fingerprints, which most other laptops suffer. This is the polar opposite of the stereotype of the ‘gaming laptop. This laptop has a lovely, clean appearance, and despite its size, it does not appear to be an edgy toy.

You won’t feel compelled to conceal this laptop when guests arrive. Additionally, it appears to be more attractive: The Alienware Area-51m gaming laptop is available in two stunning colour options: Lunar Light (white) and Dark Side of the Moon (black). We received the Lunar Light variant, which features a white chassis with black accents on the front and around the back vents. There is RGB lighting throughout the laptop – the keyboard, power button, trackpad, the logo on the back, and a ring around the rear vents all light up in any colour you choose.

Additionally, unlike many other gaming laptops, the Alienware Area-51 m’s keyboard supports per-key RGB, which means that the only limit to how you may customise this laptop’s appearance is your imagination. The Alienware Area-51m weighs a hefty 8.54 pounds and measures 1.7 inches in depth at its thickest point. This means you won’t be bringing it around with you, but it is more compact and lightweight than the MSI GT75 Titan.

Processor

The Alienware Area-51m gamin laptops is a performance beast, which should come as no surprise. This beast is powered by a desktop-class Core i9-9900K processor and Radeon RTX 2080 graphics, in addition to 32GB of RAM and two 512GB RAID 0 SSDs. We keep attempting, but nothing slows down this laptop. Even when we’re playing Battlefield V at its highest settings and running 12 Chrome tabs in the background, the Alienware Area-51m barely shows a hitch.

The CPU and GPU are the Alienware Area-51 m’s primary selling points, and there’s no need to configure it with less powerful components, given that you’ll be carrying the same amount of weight either way. If you desire to downsize, Alienware offers two Core i7-based systems and GeForce RTX 2060 and 2070 graphics options. The entry-level model features an Intel Core i7-8700 processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card, 16GB of memory, and a 256GB SSD. While these are less expensive, they run counter to the purpose and reason of purchasing a gaming computer with such a monstrous chassis.

Alienware did not exaggerate when they stated that they were developing a real desktop replacement. The Area-51m is equipped with a 3.6-GHz Intel Core i9-9900K desktop processor and 64GB of RAM. It can crunch statistics, encode video, and steam some games. This is the first Alienware to include an eight-core processor, thanks to the Intel Z390 chipset.

Battery

The Area-51 m’s battery is a sizable 90 watt-hour unit. It has a battery life of approximately 90 minutes to two hours when used for productive tasks and closer to 30 minutes when used for gaming. Nobody expected the Alienware Area-51m to boast the world’s longest battery life, but it did. The Alienware Area-51m lasts 2 hours and 3 minutes in the PCMark 8 battery test.

That may not sound like much, but compared to the MSI GT75 Titan, which lasts only an hour and 39 minutes in the same test, Alienware’s laptop is a significant improvement. If you still require additional battery life, adjust the power savings plan’s parameters. If feasible, configure it to operate at the lowest feasible brightness. Establish 1–5 minute aggressive display sleep and computer sleep timers.

The hard disc powers down more quickly. Are we able to replace it? Certain Dell Alienware batteries can lose capacity after as few as 200 charge cycles. By utilising this service, your old battery will be replaced with a new one, restoring the capacity of your Dell Alienware battery.

Display

Make a beeline for the backlighting. Maintain your attendance for the display. As is customary for Alienware, the company blessed gamers with a beautiful 1920 x 1080 display that delivers vibrant colour and clarity. On the 17.3-inch panel, the trailer for Little was displayed in a colour font.

Apart from Luke James’ chocolatey body attempting exotic dance, my favourite piece of eye candy was the portrait of Regina Hall. While the emerald, magenta, and gold were all stunning, it was the electric blue that stole the show. We could see the wrinkles and the majority of the pattern in Issa Rae’s houndstooth trousers.

Additionally, the Area-51 m’s screen features Nvidia’s G-Sync technology, which provides a 144-Hz refresh rate for buttery-smooth gaming graphics. The average brightness of the Area-51m was 284 nits, which is brighter than the 278-nit average. Additionally, it outperformed the Titan (271 nits), the Eon 17-X (252 nits), and the X9 (243 nits).

ALIENWARE AREA-51M price and availability

The Alienware Area-51m that we received for evaluation features a full-fat Intel Core i9-9900K processor, 32GB of RAM, 1TB of solid-state drive (SSD) storage, a 1TB solid-state hard drive (SSHD), and a desktop-class Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080. It is not inexpensive. To obtain this configuration, you must pay $4,499. That is a high bar for a gaming laptop, but you will not find a more powerful machine anywhere else. In comparison, the entry-level model in the United States is quite affordable. The Alienware Area-51m starts at $1,949 and includes an Intel Core i7-8700, 8GB of RAM, an RTX 2060, and a 1TB SSHDThehe beginning configuration includes all of the hardware mentioned above the UK and includes a 256GB SSD and a Core i9 processor for $2,900. Australians must pay a minimum of $2,800 for a Core i7, 16GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD.

ALIENWARE AREA-51M Cooling System

These specs and power are meaningless if the components cannot operate at an optimal temperature, which is the primary difficulty with gaming laptops. Fortunately, Alienware’s cooling system for the Area-51m is outstanding, keeping both the CPU and GPU far below their throttling points. It is not silent — the fan system is somewhat audible at full power — but it is effective, allowing the Area-51m to achieve performance levels that are considerably closer to those of a desktop than a laptop.

Loud fans are not uncommon for gaming laptops, and if you’re considering the Area-51m, you presumably anticipate them. Although the front-facing speakers are strong enough to drown out fan noise, most people will prefer to use a headset when gaming to avoid hearing the fans at all. You may not be able to use the Area-51m in a quiet office or library without drawing some suspicious glances.

Port Options

Single Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C port, an Ethernet port capable of up to 2.5Gbps, three USB 3.1 ports, an HDMI output, a mini-DisplayPort 1.4 output, audio-out and headset jacks, and a proprietary connector for the Alienware external GPU enclosure. One USB Type-C port is a bit sparse on a premium laptop, much more so on one with the Area-51amount m’s of real space.

On the other side, you’re unlikely to require an additional USB Type-C port for display output, as there are numerous specialised display output connectors. Apart from those, the chassis features two distinct, identical power portsThehe Area-51m requires a massive 330-watt power adapter plus a smaller 180-watt power adapt to operate at full power. This further restricts its capacity to act as a portable PC.

You can use a single power brick, but you will receive a notification before booting into Windows informing you that the system requires a second adaptor to operate at full capacity. Certain configurations with less powerful graphics chips and CPUs necessitate the use of two 180-watt adapters rather than one 180-watt and one 330-watt

ALIENWARE AREA-51M Gaming Experience

Competitive shooting games such as Apex Legends, Overwatch, CS: GO, and everyone’s favourite, Fortnite, can be played at 120 to 144 frames per second with all of its graphical options enabled. Players that prioritise frame rates over eye candy can customise these games to run at hundreds of frames per second, which is significantly more than the display’s native refresh rate. If the default settings are insufficient, Alienware’s Command Center allows you to overclock both the CPU and GPU to extract even more performance from them. The Area-51m is built to play heavy graphic games, and it does it admirably.

It can run practically any recent AAA game with the graphics settings maxed out and maintaining high frame rates. Even titles like Battlefield V and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which include plenty of eye candy and unique ray-tracing lighting effects, can be played with nearly every parameter enabled and maxed out. The Area-51m continues to operate at frame rates of 60 to 80 frames per second. That’s not quite the maximum 144Hz that this screen can, but it’s still quite fast for certain games.

Touchpad and Keyboard

The good news is that Alienware retained its classic keyboard. Alienware has regularly ranked at the top of our list of gaming laptop keyboards, owing to its solid feedback and pure comfort provided by its TactX keyboard. The business even managed to cram a full number pad and a column of macro keys into the space available without sacrificing any critical buttons. The 3.9 x 2.2-inch touchpad responded almost instantly to our gesture commands, and scrolling through documents and webpages was a breeze.
